With all the clamour around the north and east
opening up for the first time, Sri Lanka is fierier than ever. Conde
Nast Traveler has listed Sri Lanka along
with 19 countries in their list of “The 20 Best Places to Go in 2020”. The
list includes Armenia, Bahia, Botswana’s Salt Pans, Canadian Arctic, Canary
Islands, Copenhagen, Dominica, Dubai, El Chalten, Guyana, Metz, Mokpo,
Nashville, Okinawa, Rwanda, Slovenia, Sri Lanka’s Southern Coast,
South-eastern Australia, Southwest Michigan, and Tangier. If you want to ditch the crowds, journey instead to the island’s classic
south which is quietly whipping out a tide of hits.
Sri Lanka’s southern coast is one of Asia’s best-kept
secrets, though, in the modern-day, its mysteries are swiftly being exposed as
more and more visitants flock to the country for its amusing culture, ancient heritage,
incredible wildlife, and tropical beaches.
Most itinerants either start or end their tour of Sri
Lanka in the south and it is a delightful part of the island to reconnoitre if
one only has 2 or 3 weeks in the country. Although home to some of the finest seashores
in the country, the eminent south coast has way more to offer beyond its sandy
shoreline.
The Southern Province in Sri Lanka is accessible by car
or public transportation. From the city of Colombo, the drive lasts up to 2 to
4 hours, depending on one’s final destination. For most visitants, a relaxed
holiday on the southern coast commences from Unawatuna in the southeast to
Tangalle in the Southwest. Though the area’s main tourist towns can be named as
Weligama, Mirissa, Galle, Unawatuna & Tangalle, the exquisiteness of the
coast is that there exists a plethora of smaller towns and quiet bays for one
to unwind, away from the crowds.
For all who cherish the outdoors, Sri Lanka has something
to offer to every type of explorer. From washing away your troubles in an epic
surfing expedition, spotting a mighty whale in the Indian ocean, hopping on a
luxury sailing cruise to observing sea turtles in the wild. At present Sri
Lanka remains somewhat pure, untouched and unspoiled. With tourism numbers
projected to explode over the coming years, NOW is the best time to visit!
