Dragonflies Watching Tour at Jetwing St. Andrews, Nuwara Eliya
Experience Jetwing St. Andrew’s wetland during the day,
where the dazzlingly beautiful dragonflies are most active and easily observed.
Dragonflies are very interesting and diverse insects. They instantly attract
attention with their amazing flight skills and beautiful colours. Sri lanka has
117 species of dragonflies and damselflies of which an astonishing 52 are
endemic. The tours are conducted by the hotels in-house Naturalist, who will
take you around the trails to explain how to spot dragonflies and will point
out insects hiding from you.
The tour commences at mid day; the sunniest and hottest part of the day because they are active at that time. In this tour we can find dragonflies and damselflies. In dragonflies, mature males and females often look very different, the males regularly being more conspicuous and brightly coloured. Males are more common near the water and females live away from water but they come to water when they mate or lay eggs, otherwise, they dwell and feed at the forest edges and clearings to avoid contact with the male.
